Seats to Suit short haul fares

If you travel light and fly with only a carry-on bag (up to 7kg or 15lb) you can choose seat fare. You will receive a complimentary snack, tea, coffee, water and juice, along with inflight entertainment. It's perfect for taking a short break and for those who like to pack light with just hand luggage.

If you need to add a checked bag later, you can log in to your booking online and add a checked bag to your existing seat booking or via your travel consultant.

If you'd like to enjoy the full meal and beverage service, plus free standard seat selection, you can upgrade your ticket to theworks. Please note that upgrades must be made at least 24 hours before your flight to allow us enough time to process your request. 

We know that affordable flexibility is important to you, especially if you are a frequent flyer. That's why we now offer flexible and refundable fares in every cabin, so you can handle unexpected situations without stress.

The flexible options (worksflexi, premiumflexi and businessflexi) across all cabins allow you to change flights online with no fees and receive a full refund if you cancel before departure. Read more about our fare rules to understand these flexible fares.

Whilst our seat+bag fare has been discontinued, you still have the choice to purchase a seat ticket then add your first checked bag online for NZD$30 or AUD$30.

You can also upgrade to theworks for an additional NZD$40 or AUD$40 to enjoy the full service offering including a checked bag. Additional fees and surcharges may apply for upgrades. If you have extra bags, heavy or large items, you may need to pay additional fees after upgrading to theworks.

It's easy to add one checked bag after purchasing a seat only ticket, and it's cheaper to prepay before arriving at the airport. You have three options to add a bag to your seat booking.

Online
Simply retrieve your booking online and add your first checked bag for NZD$30 or AUD$30 up to 90 minutes before an international flight.

Contact centre
Call our Air New Zealand contact centre (service fees may apply).

Travel agent
Speak to the travel agent who made your flight booking.

Please note:

• Additional bag allowance does not apply to Airpoints™ Elite, Gold and Koru members  travelling on seat fares, even if they have purchased a bag on top of their seat only ticket
• Prepaid Extra Bags are only available when your journey is solely ticketed and operated by Air New Zealand.

Airpoints™ Elite, Gold, Elite Partner and Koru members will not receive any baggage entitlements on seat fares. If you add a bag to a seat fare, you will be able to check in one bag up to 23kgs. There is no additional baggage entitlement. Please consider this when making a booking. It is recommended to purchase our full-service fare, such as theworks, to enjoy the frequent flyer benefit of extra baggage allowance.

The improved and simplified fare options are designed to offer you more choice and greater flexibility. The flexible fares available across all cabins are:

• worksflexi (economyflexi)
• premiumflexi
• businessflexi

They provide you with full onboard cabin services with added flexibility when you need to change your flight or get a full refund.

Changes made online to the same class, same fare, and same route of travel are permitted without paying a fee. However, an additional fare difference may apply when the same booking class or fare is not available, and travel must be upgraded to the next available fare.

Please note that name changes are not permitted on any fares, so you can't transfer your flight booking to another person.

Yes, you will receive a full refund If you originally purchased a flexi fare and cancel online before departure.

If you upgraded to a flexi fare after you originally purchased a non-flexible fare, only the upgraded portion is eligible for a refund unless otherwise required by law.

If you make changes or cancel your booking online, you don't need to pay a service fee but a fare difference may apply.

If you cancel your booking after departure, a cancellation fee will apply.

Yes, you can purchase flexi and non-flexi fare tickets for different sectors on the same booking. For example, you can have flexi fare booked for Auckland to Sydney and non-flexi fare booked for Sydney returning to Auckland.

However, if you fly with other people, you can't mix flexi and non-flexi fares for different people on the same sector and the same booking.

You may change your non-flexi fare booking to a flexi product (worksflexi/economyflexi, premiumflexi or businessflexi) at anytime. However, additional fees and surcharges will apply when you change your original booking:

• Change fees - fees for changing your booking.
• Fare difference - the difference between the original fare purchased and the new flexi fare
• Service fees - handling charges when changes are made through our contact centre. These are waived If you make changes yourself online.

Please note that the original fare will remain non-refundable and only the additional fare portion paid for the upgrade is eligible for a refund.

The new flexi fares are more affordable across all cabins. For example, if you book a flight to Sydney from Auckland, the price differences are:

• theworks vs worksflexi, NZD$60 per person one way
• premiumeconomy vs premiumflexi, NZD$80 per person one way
• businesspremier vs businessflexi, NZD$120 per person one way

Additional fees and surcharges may also apply when you change your original booking.
