Change your flight

If you booked directly with Air New Zealand – on our website, the Air NZ app or through our Contact Centre, the best way to make changes to your flight is to manage it yourself online. When you sign in, we'll show you all the different changes you can make. You'll have more options if you booked a flexi fare.

You can change your flight details online within 24 hours of your initial booking without a change fee, but a fare difference may apply.

If your booking was made through a travel agent or different airline, please contact them directly for assistance.

Fees that apply

Your fare type is noted on the receipt page of your E-ticket. Each fare type has different inclusions and flexibility so check the fare rules that apply to your booking. You'll be able to check if your ticket is refundable if you want to cancel your flight and whether additional fees will be charged if you make any changes to your booking.

Fees and surcharges that may apply for cancellations and changes include:

  • Change fees - fees for changing your booking. This could be to a new time, date or destination.
  • Fare difference - the difference between the original fare purchased and the new flight fare. 
  • Service fees - handling charges when bookings or changes are made through our Contact Centre. These are waived if you make changes yourself online.
  • Cancellation fees – fees charged if you cancel your flight, these vary depending on your point of origin and destination and your fare type. Refer to the applicable fare rules for details.

We'll let you know what fees your changes will incur before you decide to go ahead and change your booking.

Can't manage your booking online?

Sometimes options to manage your booking online are not available for the following reasons:

  • You booked through a travel agent or a different airline. Please contact them directly.
  • Your flights are in the past. Sign in to Airpoints to add a flight to your account.
  • You have more than nine people in your group. Contact our Group Travel team.
  • You have a multi-city booking. Contact us to make changes.
  • You have a booking purchased with a promo code. Contact us to make changes.
  • You want to correct the passenger name on the booking. Contact us or begin a chat with Oscar to make changes.
