Mt Hutt

Officially New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort*, Mt Hutt is Canterbury's big friendly mountain with the best natural snow around, one of the longest vertical drops in the South Island and awesome Kiwi hospitality. You can just sense the local pride.

When we say big, that is what we mean. The skiable area of 365 hectares offers wide groomed slopes, all-lift access for all abilities, top to bottom terrain parks with world class jumps, and a long season with plenty of powder days.

The views are spectacular too. At an altitude of 2086m and rising out of the Canterbury Plains, you can see right across the patchwork of pastureland below to the Pacific Ocean on a good day.

The 90-minute drive to Mt Hutt from Christchurch is beautiful also, travelling past the Canterbury Plains and Rakaia Gorge. From Methven, Mt Hutt is only 35 minutes’ drive.

The Kids4Free Deal is a huge attraction also. Children 10 and under get a lift pass free of charge every day of the season at Mt Hutt.

*Mt Hutt has been voted New Zealand’s official best ski resort 2018 four years in a row at the annual World Ski Awards.

The summit 6 seat high-speed chairlift takes you to the highest point of any ski area in the South Island.  From feeling on top of the world, you can cruise down the legendary 'Broadway' or take on the chutes and steeps of "The Towers". Then you can relax with the real NZ flavour that's unmistakably the country town of Methven.

There’s simply nowhere else quite like it.

  • With the Kids4Free programme there really is no excuse not to have a winter holiday in the South Island. Free day lift passes for children aged 10 years & under.
  • Easy 35 min drive from Methven.
  • Dedicated learning facilities - suitable for all abilities.
  • All day supervised kids programmed for 3 months of age to 15 years old.
  • One of the largest and highest ski areas in the South Island.
