Purchasing Extra Bags
You can purchase Extra Bags online when making your booking, or by adding them to an existing flight booking. Alternatively, you can call the Contact Centre (service fees may apply) or speak to your travel agent.
Extra Bags are available on selected Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia operated flights providing the fare you have selected includes a baggage allowance. If you have purchased a Seat fare you will first need to upgrade to a Seat + Bag fare before you can purchase Extra Bags. Please note that Extra Bags are not available to purchase for international multistop itineraries booked online.
If booking online with multiple travellers, Extra Bags will be spread across passengers to ensure the most cost effective allocation but you will need to check in together to make sure the extra baggage allowance is recognised.
Overweight, oversize and firearm charges apply in addition to prepaid Extra Bag charges where applicable. These charges can only be paid at the airport.
Airpoints™ and Koru members allowances
If you’re an Airpoints Gold Elite / Gold or Koru members your current free additional baggage allowance still applies to a maximum of 3 checked in bags, so please take this into consideration before purchasing Extra Bags. View a summary table of these changes here.
So, if you've got a booking but are struggling to fit everything in, add Extra Bags.
