Two-way quarantine-free flights between New Zealand and Australia are now available to book. All tickets are sold subject to Air New Zealand maintaining the necessary regulatory approval.

What is two-way quarantine-free travel?

Two-way quarantine-free travel allows airlines and airports to operate 'quarantine-free' also known as 'Green' flights between New Zealand and approved safe travel zone destinations without the requirement of quarantine on arrival as set by local governments.

Quarantine-free travel is not guaranteed and is subject to change at short notice, customers travel at their own risk and must be prepared for changes. Please ensure you give yourself extra time when arriving at the airport and have all your required documentation available to assist the check-in screening process.

Travel to New Zealand from Australia

Eligibility to travel 'quarantine-free' to New Zealand:

The New Zealand Government permit quarantine-free entry into New Zealand from states that are classified as a safe travel zone. Please be prepared for the safe travel zone status of a state to change at short notice.

Documentation required: 

  • Before you travel to New Zealand, you will need to complete the online New Zealand Travel Declaration.
  • You will be required to complete a health declaration at check-in. Please bring evidence of any pre-existing conditions when you check-in, to avoid being denied boarding. Please ensure you give yourself extra time ahead of your flight departure time. 

To be eligible to travel quarantine-free on a green flight, you must:

  • in the 14-day period before travel, been in New Zealand or a country (or part of a country) that has been designated as a quarantine-free-place.
  • during the 14-day period before travel, not had a positive COVID-19 test (or if you have, you have written advice from a health practitioner that you are no longer infectious).
  • not be awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test that was undergone during the 14-day period.
  • are not experiencing any of the following symptoms with or without a fever:
    • new or worsening cough
    • sore throat
    • shortness of breath
    • runny nose
    • loss of sense of smell
    • fever (at least 38 degrees celsius)

Eligibility to travel 'quarantine-free' to Australia:

Please check the Australia Government Department of Home Affairs website and the State Government websites which you can find below for entry requirements before booking with us.

Documentation required:

  • Before you travel to Australia, you will need to complete the online Australia Travel Declaration at least 72 hours before your departure for Australia. You will be asked to present your completed declaration before you can check-in at the airport.
  • Some states have additional conditions of entry requirements. Please refer to the Australian government website for the most up to date information.
