Our travel insurance integrated with a flights-only booking is ideal for customers who wish to protect themselves in the event of cancellation (even before you travel), medical emergencies, missed connections, delayed departures, baggage and other reasons whilst travelling.

Plus, our Worldwide (with flights) travel insurance gives you instant acceptance.

There are no forms to complete, but this policy must be purchased at the time of booking, and cannot be added at a later date.

There is an upper age limit of 59 years (at date of travel commencing) and there is no cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

Children booked with you on child or infant fares are also covered at no extra cost.

Emergency Assistance 24/7

Air New Zealand Travel Insurance incorporates the services of QBE's own Worldwide Emergency Assistance team.

QBE Assist is a team of trained medical and insurance specialists available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whenever and wherever you need them.

The QBE Assist team support you with:

  • Medical Advice and Assistance
  • Medical Evacuation if required
  • Urgent messages to your family
  • Assistance with replacement of lost tickets
  • Re-scheduling of travel plans disrupted through document loss, or theft or medical emergency at home or overseas
  • Introduction to lawyers for advice and representation in the event of unlawful detention

Free Look Period

Our travel insurance is non-refundable but you have a 14 day free-look period from the date that you purchased the insurance.

We will refund the cost of the insurance - as long as the travel has not yet commenced, and you haven't made a claim.

To request a refund call the Air New Zealand Contact Centre on 13 24 76, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and quote your booking reference.

Other Things You Should Know

Air New Zealand international travel insurance is underwritten and provided by QBE Insurance (International) Limited.

These insurance policies are available to Australian residents only.

You can't pay for travel insurance with Airpoints Dollars and will not earn Airpoints Dollars.

A fixed excess of $100 applies to each claimable event.

If you're making a return journey, you will be covered for the period between your flights, including connections from regional airports.

If you are making a one-way journey, the cover is for a maximum of 31 days from the date of departure.

If you change the itinerary before you depart you can change your policy, so long as you have not and will not make any claim under the policy to do with this change. However, you can't change it once your journey has started.

If Air New Zealand changes its schedule, or a flight is delayed, your policy is extended automatically.

Please read the full insurance conditions of the policy before you buy it. Your Electronic Ticket, Itinerary & Receipt will include your policy number, amount paid and terms and conditions.

Policies are only valid upon acceptance of payment by the Insurer and the policy must be purchased while the insured person is in New Zealand, prior to the commencement of the journey.
