Air New Zealand takes off from the Gold Coast

28 March 2008

Sunday 30 March will see the departure of Air New Zealand's first direct service to New Zealand from the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast residents will depart on the inaugural flight on Air New Zealand's Airbus 320-200 aircraft on Sunday at 8:10am to Auckland closely followed by the first direct flight to Wellington at 8:30am the same morning.

On Tuesday 1 April, direct services to Hamilton will commence followed by direct services to Christchurch on Thursday 3 April.

In total, Air New Zealand will operate 12 direct services a week between the Gold Coast and New Zealand.

Air New Zealand General Manager Australia John Harrison says enthusiasm for a full service carrier that is part of the Star Alliance on the Gold Coast has been expressed from consumer and industry members alike.

"The opportunity to choose from Economy and Business class seating, enjoy a meal and a movie included in the fare, earn Airpoints and connect to our international destinations including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver is incredibly exciting."

Customers travelling on the inaugural service will receive a gift from Air New Zealand on departure at Gold Coast International Airport. The commemorative pack will include iconic New Zealand chocolate, and a discounted offer for their next trip to New Zealand.

"As we work towards our Tasman fleet upgrade including digital in-flight entertainment at every seat and a new economy class configuration we look forward to showcasing the best of Air New Zealand to Gold Coast travellers."
