First MTV Mile High Gig is a sell out

27 March 2007

The first MTV Mile High Gig has sold out. Air New Zealand Flight NZ1703 departing April 28th from Auckland to Sydney will see passengers party in the air as two New Zealand bands perform mid-flight on the way to the MTV Australia Video Music Awards.

The first Air New Zealand flight of its kind has been hugely popular with music lovers from around the country snapping up every saleable ticket on the Air New Zealand A320 Airbus. The exclusive seats not only include the private mid-flight performance but passengers also receive a money can't buy ticket to the Awards ceremony as well as a ticket to the VIP after party.

Air New Zealand General Manager of Pacific and Tasman Services Stephen Jones says he's not surprised at the speed the tickets have sold out.

"The MTV Mile High Gig is a sign of things to come from Air New Zealand. This flight offers our customers a unique, money can't buy experience and by working with partners like MTV we aim to take travel to a whole new level." says Jones.

While the headline act is yet to be announced The Dukes, winners of the MTV Kickstart competition will open the gig performing a 20 minute set once the Air New Zealand plane has reached cruising altitude. Kickstart is an MTV initiative that aims to help an upcoming band kick start their careers by professionally shooting a music clip, introducing the band to A&R executives and the opportunity to play in the MTV Mile High Gig.

"MTV are proud to be taking The Dukes to new heights, literally. We're staunch supporters of New Zealand music and this is a great way to show our support of one of New Zealand's best up and coming bands. They are going to rock at 37,000 feet," says Pip Jamieson, Marketing Manager MTV.

While there are no more tickets available for purchase there are still a limited amount of tickets available to win via MTV and MTV's media partners including ZM, Flava, Cleo and Sky Watch. Over the coming month people should stay to tuned to for their last chance to be part of the world's first MTV Mile High Gig.

This year the MTV Australia Video Music Awards (AVMAs) will be hosted by Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas and Good Charlotte's Benji & Joel Madden. The big event, promised to bring you all the key moments & performances that you would only expect from a MTV awards ceremony – down under style!!
