The trusty old bathroom scales may be called into service for something other than the morning weigh-in at home by travellers flying on Air New Zealand's Tasman Express.
From 29 October Air New Zealand implements a standard allowance of 7kg for all Economy Class cabin baggage - including Tasman Express - and this will be strictly monitored.
Checked-in baggage allowance for Tasman Express will remain at 20kg, in line with our ExpressClass service in New Zealand.
Cabin Baggage
- One piece per person allowed, weighing no more than 7 kg with maximum size of 115 cm. As always, cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front. No change to additional carry-on items such as an overcoat or handbag.
- Cabin baggage will be sighted and weighed as required. If a customer's cabin baggage is in excess of 7kg they will be asked to check-in some of the contents or, if at the departure gate, the customer will be asked to give up the baggage for storage in the hold.
Note: Business & Star Gold customers may take 2 pieces of cabin baggage of 7kg each
Checked-In Baggage Allowance
Economy Class - 20kg total
Business Class - 30kg total
Gold Frequent Flyers - extra 20kg (Airpoints Gold, Gold Elite, Star Alliance Gold)
Infants - one piece, 10kg
Excess Baggage
Checking in overweight bags could mean additional cost. A fee of $10 per kg will be charged for any baggage weighing over 20kg - this fee will be strictly enforced in order to be fair to all customers.
Oversize Items
As from 29 October, oversize items will be included in the customer's checked baggage and a handling fee of $20 per oversize item will be introduced.
- If the customer's total baggage (including the oversize item) exceeds their checked baggage allowance, excess baggage charges in addition to the handling fee will apply.
- Carriage of oversize items is subject to availability of space on the aircraft.
Note: This applies to domestic ExpressClass and Tasman Express
Length Restrictions
As from 29 October, length restrictions will be implemented on all Air New Zealand aircraft network wide
- NZ domestic & international jet aircraft - 2.5 m
- Air New Zealand Link airlines - 1.8 m.
Note: The smallest aircraft in the journey will determine the maximum length that can be accepted.
Eg: Gisborne to Sydney - 1.8m
Auckland to Sydney - 2.5m
Baggage Allowance for International Connections
Customers connecting with international flights (which are not Tasman Express services) will be subject to the applicable international checked and cabin baggage allowance and there is no handling fee for oversize items.
International excess baggage charges will apply if the international baggage allowance is exceeded.
Air New Zealand Tasman Express - 16 days to go.
