New Zealand - Auckland

City of sails.

They say the ratio of boats in Auckland is one for every four people! There are eight marinas dotted around the city, so this is quite possibly true. Auckland is New Zealand's largest city sprawling across the Hauraki Gulf taking in several islands and the unique white and black sand beaches of both east and west coasts.

Auckland, New Zealand.

The Viaduct buzzes with restaurants, apartments and hotels where you'll see plenty of yachts and luxury launches - some available for hire. This is the perfect spot for drinks in the sun, delicious food from casual to fine dining. After dark the nearby clubs put their dancing shoes on and before you know it the sun is rising.

The iconic Sky Tower punctuates Auckland's skyline and the best view is driving from the north shore across the harbour bridge just on dusk to see the lights reflecting in the water.

There are several great areas for shopping in Auckland. From boutiques showcasing New Zealand designers in High Street, Newmarket and Ponsonby, to malls with popular chain stores. You'll also pick up quality art and souvenirs in the CBD from several galleries and stores along Queen Street, High Stree and Lorne Street.

Attractions include Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic and Underwater World - which has a penguin colony as well as the chance to jump in and swim with sharks! The Auckland War Memorial Museum in the Domain is full of Maori artefacts and priceless treasures plus a separate kids' discovery centre. Auckland Zoo offers behind-the-scenes tours to feed the monkeys, walk the cheetahs or help wash the elephants. You could always catch a rugby match at Eden Park, a concert at Vector Arena or some of the festivals, markets and events held all over the city every weekend!

Dare-devils can bungy jump from the Sky Tower or the Harbour Bridge. The rest of us can take a ferry to an island for wine tasting with live music, hiking, relaxation and the chance to explore this jewel of New Zealand.
